British Museum Showcases Hajj Exhibition

The British Museum has just opened a unique exhibition on the Islamic pilgrimage, the Hajj. The exhibition will show rare manuscripts and artefacts that document different people’s experiences on the holy Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca. This is the first time any museum in the world has displayed works like this.

The exhibition, which opened today, features traveller’s accounts sourced from 13 different countries as well as textiles, photographs and souvenirs from the Hajj. Prominent items include a glass model of the Ka’bah, a digital Qur’an, and the writings of the first British Muslim woman to undertake the Hajj in 1933. This is a great opportunity for those who are unable to make the pilgrimage to understand more about this sacred rite.

Holiday Rental Web highly recommends this fascinating exhibition for locals, expats and tourists who book hotels accommodation in London. The exhibition will run from January 26 to April 15, 2012, and is open to the general public. The ticket price is 12 pounds for adults and kids under 16 can enter for free.
